The "Big Five" personality factors is a methodology in a contemporary psychology according to which a person’s character depends on the level of expression of such traits as openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. Studying how each of them is revealed in a person can help to define whether he or she is appropriate for a particular job or not.
Tisha applied for a managerial position. To be successful at this job, she has to possess qualities needed for an effective leadership. Her openness to experience and agreeableness, the qualities essential for a good manager, were assessed as moderately high. This means that she has a rich imagination and experience, thus, as a manager, she will be able to easily find solutions to different problematic situations. Moreover, being agreeable, Tisha can organize a team work, cooperate with her colleagues, and take into consideration thoughts and recommendations of others rather than do everything on her own. In addition, Tisha scored very high in extraversion which characterizes her as an outgoing person who enjoys company of other people. In a team, she will be a source of motivation and energy. High results in conscientiousness suggest that Tisha is a single-minded, organized, and disciplined worker who prefers acting by plan. This makes her a responsible manager who is capable of achieving goals. Finally, Tisha scored low in neuroticism, the factor responsible for emotional instability. Neurotics are prone to depression and the display of negative emotions such as anger, irritation, and anxiety. They are unable to work under pressure, handle stress or make wise decisions. Therefore, people with high expression of neuroticism are not appropriate for the discussed position.
To sum up, Tisha’s results suggest that, on the one hand, she appears to be active, creative, and communicative; on the other, she is organized and self-disciplined, she can work under pressure and make good decisions. Obviously, Tisha has all the qualities to become a successful manager.
