Albert Bandura: Contributions to Psychology

Albert Bandura is an outstanding psychologist of the 20th century. He was born in 1925 in Canada in a large family. His inclination for psychology and interest in its theories he found during his study at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Bandura turned out to be a skilled student and graduated with the Bolocan Award in Psychology.

In the University of Iowa he became interested in the learning theory and behaviorist tradition. Later, he received his Ph. D. Bandura took his postdoctoral position in the Wichita Guidance Center in Kansas. The next year he started working as a teacher at Stanford where he continues to work nowadays. In Stanford he actually began studying the behavioral models and aggression in children.

Albert Bandura is a well-known psychologist whose ideas and studies are very valuable. He is famous for the Social Learning Theory, Self-regulation Theory, Self-control Therapy, Social Cognitive Theory of Human Functioning, Self-efficacy and Behaviorism. Albert Bandura conducted many observations and studies on the basis of modeling. He explains a personality as a connection of the environment and his/her internal psychological processes. People know how to control themselves with the help of self-regulation. Self-regulation theory became the basis for the Self-control Therapy. It was used to treat various bad habits like overeating or smoking.
